Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code is a five-character alpha-numeric identifier assigned to entities (businesses/organizations, etc.) located in the United States and its territories by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Program Office to identify a commercial or government entity. For purposes of this SOP, the CAGE Code may be identified as the U.S. CAGE Code.
In the Small Business Act of July 30, 1953, Congress created the Small Business Administration, whose function is to “aid, counsel, assist and protect, insofar as is possible, the interests of small business concerns.” The charter also stipulates that SBA would ensure small businesses a “fair proportion” of government contracts and sales of surplus property.
Prime Contractors who are interested in subcontracting with small, small and disadvantaged, women-owned small, HUBZone-certified, 8(a), veteran-owned small, and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses have to be registered with a CAGE Code number.
